Race: Darlington Raceway
Date: March 12, 2011
Darlington, S.C. (March 13, 2011) – Vision Aviation Racing (VAR) driver, Dusty Davis, brought his Vision Airlines/Emerald Coast Resorts Toyota Tundra home 21st in the “Too Though To Tame 200″ at Darlington Raceway Saturday night.
Davis took the green flag from a career high 15th starting spot. A quick caution on lap two made for a slow start but Davis was able to find a rhythm after the restart.
“The Vision Airlines/Emerald Coast Resorts Toyota Tundra was running good,” commented Davis after the race. “We qualified 15th and gained some ground by the mid part of the race. The truck was doing awesome, Doug Howe on the box was making some awesome calls there and the truck was handling really good.”
On lap 74, Davis was caught up in an accident that left the No.15 with nose damage. “The truck in front of me checked up and I had nowhere to go. I ran right in the back of him and that caused a lot of damage. We put some Bondo on it there and we weren’t running too badly after that. We got some spots there and got up to 11th with like 30 laps to go but all the Bondo flew off at the end and the handling just went away.”
It was an exciting night for the rookie who was able to learn some things for next year’s race. “Overall a big learning curve, I learned a lot about passing there having to come from the back to the front. I describe it as driving like a short track at 180 mph, so it’s pretty nuts. I learned a lot and I am really excited to come back here next year.”
Davis was also very complimentary of his VAR crew who worked extremely hard in the off week. Darlington was not originally on the list of tracks Davis would run this year and a last minute decision to enter him at Darlington meant a lot of hard work from everyone involved. “Everyone at VAR worked really hard to give me a good truck this week. The guys did an awesome job, we only had a week and half to put this truck together and we were running great there until our late race misfortunes.”
