Mooresville, NC (April 8th, 2011) - Vision Aviation Racing driver Dusty Davis will be returning to his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada April 11th and 12th to participate in Nevada Reading Week.
Davis, who races the No. 15 Vision Airlines/Emerald Coast Resorts Toyota Tundra in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, will spend two days visiting schools in the Las Vegas area to help promote the importance of reading among the area’s elementary school students.
Nevada Reading Week is a statewide initiative by teachers and librarians to get elementary school students excited about reading. Davis, who is the spokesperson for another reading initiative, Driven to Read, is passionate about the subject.
“Reading is extremely important. I hope to inspire kids to start reading from an early age so they not only understand just how important it is, but also enjoy it,” said Davis.
As part of his Nevada Reading Week schedule, Davis is set to visit one of his childhood classrooms at Ober Elementary School where he will get to see a familiar face.
“I am really excited for all the Reading Week festivities but I am most excited about visiting my 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Pizzi, who was instrumental to my education. I will be reading to her current students and hopefully get them excited about reading on their own.”
Among other activities, Davis will attend the Nevada Reading Week Kick-Off Assembly and the Driven to Read Awards Lunch at Roundy Elementary School.
Driven to Read – Racing isn’t just about speed. It’s about setting goals and setting out to achieve them. Races are simply the venue, and the competition is what determines the success in achieving the goals. Driven to Read is a merit based program designed to encourage youngsters to increase their reading proficiency through the power of NASCAR. Vision Aviation Racing driver Dusty Davis and Driven to Read want to inspire children through goal setting programs that will enable them to achieve their own success.
