NOTHING SAY’S HAPPY FATHERS DAY LIKE WINNING THE FEATURE FOR YOUR DAD!

Irwindale, CA., Jun. 19 – It wasn’t officially Fathers Day yet, but that didn’t stop Vision Airlines drivers Justin Johnson and Dusty Davis from presenting their Dads with a couple of gift wrapped Irwindale feature wins…

When you talk to Justin and Dusty, both are quick to give their Fathers credit for getting them started in racing.  On Fathers Day weekend it was only fitting that these two young men could pay tribute to all that their Fathers have done to get them racing at this level.  Certainly Craig Johnson and Tom Davis can tell lengthy stories about the time, money and the long hours they’ve invested while keeping their Son’s dreams alive. But the Father / Son theme doesn’t end there.  The Crew Chiefs for the two Vision cars that Davis and Johnson race, are also a Father / Son racing combo – Chuck and Sonny Wahl.

This past Saturday at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, the Vision teammates Justin Johnson, 24, and Dusty Davis, 17, won both ends of the twin-40-lap main events in front of about 3,000 spectators, many of which were proud Fathers like Craig Johnson, Tom Davis and Chuck Wahl.  The track gave Dads free admission in a Father’s Day weekend celebration.

The first Pepsi Super Late Model feature included X-Games medalist and freestyle motocross racer Brian Deegan who made his NASCAR debut at Irwindale Saturday night.  The Metal Mullisha Star didn’t have much of an effect on the VAR Drivers however, as Dusty Davis set fast time for the evening but due to the inversion would start the first feature in P6.  Justin Johnson quickly put his 98 Vision Air Fusion out front and was never challenged. Davis quickly passed his way to second place by lap 5 then chased his Vision teammate Johnson for the remaining 35 laps. Dusty later said “I burned up my right rear tire trying to catch him”.  Johnson drove a smooth smart race and held off Davis by 5 car lengths at the finish to take his fourth consecutive Pepsi Super Late Model victory at Irwindale and extend his points lead.

In the second Pepsi Super Late Model feature Justin Johnson started third and Davis from pole.  Davis launched from the pole and led all 40 laps and this time didn’t need to burn up his tires. Randel King started and finished second with Johnson third about 2 seconds behind his Vision teammate. The  second place duel between King and Johnson was the most closely contested of the race as Davis checked out.  With Dusty’s win in the second Pepsi SLM race and Justin’s in the first 40 lap main, the Vision Airlines drivers combined to lead almost all of the 80 total laps Saturday night and completed each of the 40 lappers in just over 12 minutes as both races were all green.

The Johnson / Davis, Vision Aviation Racing sweep gives the team 8 victories in 11 races so far, five by Johnson and three by Davis.  The VAR boys have also captured 7 poles so far.  Additionally point leader Johnson has now increased his series point lead to 24 (518-494) over teammate Davis.
