Phoenix second grader, Madeline Liu, enjoyed her first ever NASCAR race this past weekend at Phoenix International Raceway thanks to her love of reading.
Driven to Read, a reading incentive program designed to encourage youngsters to increase their reading proficiency through the power of NASCAR awarded Liu and her family with four tickets to last weekend’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race where DTR spokesperson and Vision Aviation Racing driver, Dusty Davis, raced his No.15 Toyota Tundra.
Liu was the top reader at Trinity Lutheran School where Driven to Read and Dusty Davis made an appearance last October to introduce the program. Kids in the program must read for 15 minutes to gain 1 mile on the track. When Davis and his Vision Aviation Racing team returned to Phoenix it was Liu who passed her classmate on the reading track to earn the top prize. Her teacher, Mrs. Bosma commented that, “Madeline is a sweet girl who reads a lot. She has read twice as much as any other student in second grade at Trinity Lutheran School. Madeline is very bright. “
Driven to Read plans to visit more area schools around the Camping World Truck Series circuit where Dusty Davis and his Vision Aviation Racing team will be competing in 2011.
